The Matchup
Last time
The Sox and Mariners met for a weekend series three weeks ago at Fenway Park. Boston swept Seattle in the three-game set with the same three Sox starters in this series collecting wins. That was Wake's 199th win that he has failed to make 200 in his last 3 starts. John Lackey beat Felix Hernandez in game 1, by giving up only 1 run over 7 innings. Ellsbury, Pedroia, and Gonzalez combined to go 17-for-37 in the three game set, as the Sox averaged 7.3 runs per game.
This time
Laser Show: Adrian Gonzalez, Dustin Pedroia, & Jacoby Ellsbury
As said before, this trio did very well against the Seattle Mariners in Boston, combining for a .460 average. It's about time for these three to light up Seattle's pitching staff and get numbers similar to the last series. Picking this trio should always pay-off, because at least one of these guys is likely to perform well.
Pitch Around: No one
Don't Fall Behind: Felix Hernandez
Hernandez is the only guy on the team that has salvaged any respect for the Seattle Mariners. His 3.31 ERA, and 174 strikeouts are nothing to mess with. The great thing is, he will be over-matched by Josh Beckett on Saturday night.
How we see it goin' down
This will be a repeat of the last series between these two clubs, with the only change will be the Sox scoring more runs off of Seattle pitching. The Sox will make quick work of the Mariners by way of the sweep, and hopefully gain some ground on the Yankees.
