We all remember when Youk called Jacoby Ellsbury out for not being with the team during his rehab last season, or at the team's facility in Ft. Myers. So we all assumed Youk had a problem with Jacoby, since he called him out publicly and all. We most recently found out Youk has been an absolute delight in the clubhouse, so of course he doesn't have a problem with Ellsbury or anyone else.
Youk was on WAAF's Hill-Man Morning Show (via CSNNE), and he assured everyone that they are just fine. Then he ends it with a bit of a twist...
Youkilis also responded to reports by ESPN's Jackie MacMullan that his relationship with Jacoby Ellsbury is strained.
"I have no issue with Jacoby," Youkilis said, explaining that, after the final game of the year, he congratulated the center fielder for his impressive season.[...]
"My philosophy is . . . when you're hurt, you either go to Fort Myers or you go with the team," Youkilis said. He added, however, "It's a matter of opinion. Some people don't believe in it; some people do."
Hmmm...Are you really over it Youk? Does it still burn you up a little inside?
He also noted that during his interview last year, he was "misquoted" and it was "blown out of proportion". I used to be one of the biggest Youkilis advocates, and used to take his side when my brother-in-law called him a "bum". Now, knowing how much of a cynic he is in the clubhouse and how much of an un-likable character he is, I can't take much of him either.
Looking back on the process of Ellsbury's rehab, it was the right thing to do. They did something right in Arizona, because Ellsbury beat your ass this year. Whether he was in Ft. Myers or Arizona, he was still away from the team and doing things right. Effin' cynic!
