Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
While strolling through JetBlue Park Friday, Red Sox principal owner John Henry revealed a few things about his new spring training complex. One of which had to do with one of the park’s centerpieces — the left field wall.
Henry said the left field wall, which was supposed to be somewhat of duplicate to Fenway Park’s Green Monster, was actually three feet higher than its Boston counterpart. In actuality, after digging in a bit more, the wall is five feet higher than the one in Fenway.
The owner also talked about the space in the middle of the JetBlue Park wall, which houses seats that are protected by a net. Henry noted that the Red Sox had actually investigated doing the same sort of design in Fenway’s left field wall — putting seats in the middle — a few years ago, but came to the conclusion that wasn’t possible.
WEEI:Anybody notice something different from the left field wall
Henry just can't win anymore. First his baseball team implodes, then his soccer team is surrounded by racial controversy, and now this. He was just trying to boast about creating an authentic Green Monster and he can't even do that. Who had to be the person to tell Henry this after saying it's a real duplicate? More importantly, why didn't the contractors mention this to anyone when they finished building it?
As you could imagine, Henry wasn't too happy about this. Steve Buckley had a trio of tweets that expressed Henry's anger. The "heads will roll" line is classic. Someone will pay for this travesty!
Honestly, very few probably care that the wall isn't exactly identical to JetBlue Park. He should be much more concerned to the lack of padding in between left & center field that the players were worried about. Oh and the fact that the entire park looks pretty damn good.
