I tried to find a good video of Carl Beane announcing lineups and this was as good a video as I could find. For nearly a decade, anyone who went to a Red Sox game heard Beane announcing batters over the PA in an understated style that matched Fenway Park.
Sadly, Beane's voice was silenced this morning in a single-car accident in Sturbridge.
Beane, 59, was pronounced dead at Harrington Hospital in Southbridge a short time after the crash on Holland Road early this afternoon.
Golfers from nearby Hemlock Ridge Golf Course called police at 12:39 p.m.to alert them to the crash, according to the office of Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
Our thoughts are with the Beane family at this tragic time. Beane's passing is a loss to the entire Red Sox family. I'm sure the Red Sox will appropriately honor him tomorrow night and for the rest of the season.
