Will Middlebrooks continues his incredible season as he hits two home runs and drives in five RBIs to help get the Sox a much needed victory, beating the Royals 11-5.
Middlebrooks hit a three run homer in the first and then added a two run shot in the eighth. He went 3-5 and he already has more extra base hits in four games (6) then Kevin Youkilis has had all season (4). If he keeps raking like this, Youkilis will be riding the bench when he comes back from the DL.
The Sox pounced on Royals starter Jonathan Sanchez early on as he allowed six runs on three innings. He helped Adrian Gonzalez forget about the dreadful 0-8 performance yesterday, as he got the scoing started with an RBI single. He finished the night 2-5.
It was more than just Middlebrooks tonight as Dustin Pedroia & David Ortiz also went yard. Kelly Shoppach also got a stand up triple. It was great to see the bats wake up after being shut down by the Orioles bullpen.
Speaking about bullpens, Felix Doubront went deep enough tonight to give the Sox bullpen some rest. It wasn't pretty but he went 6 1/3, allowed five runs on seven hits. He walked three & struck out two. Vicente Padilla came in with the bases loaded and was able to get Billy Butler to ground into a double play to end the inning. Padilla closed out the game, going 2 2/3 innings, allowing just three hits and gets the save in return.
