Jarrod Saltalamacchia tried to steal some of the sports spotlight from the Celtics tonight, but Alfredo Aceves had other ideas.
Down 6-4, Salty launched a 2-run homer off Orioles closer Jim Johnson with two outs. The shot barely cleared the Monster and in fact required replay to confirm it went out.
The crowd and team were fired up...until Aceves came back out for the top of the 10th. He had fired a perfect 9th, but the extra inning proved too much, as he walked the first batter and proceeded to give up three more hits, including two runs. The Sox had the bottom of the lineup due up (well, Nava, Aviles, and the leadoff Podsednik...but come on, it's Scott Podsednik) and couldn't erase the lead.
Also worth noting: It was another pedestrian start from Jon Lester. He only went six innings, struck out five, but allowed eight hits and a walk. Four runs scored, although only two were earned, due to an error by Mike Aviles on a routine groundball. Lester's ERA sits at 4.64 -- not exactly what we bargained for.
