I've had it with Aceves as the closer. I understand the pickings are slim, but there has to be another option. This time he gave up two runs in the ninth, the second coming off a Coco Crisp sac-fly to beat the Sox, 3-2.
The Red Sox offense was kept relatively quiet tonight, with the Sox getting runs on a Salty homer and A's error. That was pretty much it. Oh, they went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
Jon Lester gave signs of return to his old form, pitching 6 2/3 innings, giving up 4 hits, 1 run (a Coco Crisp homer), walked 1 and struck out 9. I thought for sure all will go right for the Red Sox after that performance. Padilla had some trouble in relief of Lester, but got out of the jams he got himself into. The Aceves had to screw it up again, to fall to 0-6 on the season while recording his 4th blown save. Awesome stats for a closer.
The Yankees keep losing and the Sox can't capitalize. It's the same old story.
F**kin' Coco Crisp.
