That didn't take long.
Just as word was coming down that the Sox were after a lefty, they struck a deal with Arizona to pull in lefty reliever Craig Breslow. In return, Boston sends Matt Albers and Scott Podsednik to the desert.
Breslow has a 2.70 ERA in 43.1 IP this year. His FIP and xFIP are in the mid-3's, suggesting some luck, but he also has an excellent 8.72 K/9 rate. More importantly, against lefties he's struck out 20, vs. two walks issued, in 18.2 IP.
The Sox didn't give up much. Albers had pitched well this year, but wasn't a dealbreaker. And Scott Podsednik, while valuable when every Sox OF was hurt, was certainly expendable.
Breslow returns to Boston after being placed on waivers by the Sox during Spring Training in 2008.
