After every series, we'll take stock of how each individual and group performance affects their overall value.
Lineup
Daniel Nava: Daniel had a nice homer in game 2, but didn't do much in the rest of the series. His average has dipped below .300, and he is not convincing us that he is worthy of being in the lead-off spot.
Dustin Pedroia: He started the series off pretty cold, then kicked it up in the final 2 games. The homer was huge in game 4, but I am still not convinced he is at least 80%.
David Ortiz: The sac fly that proved to be the game winner yesterday was huge. Aside from that, his bat wasn't much of a factor. He wasn't terrible, but he could have done a little better against a team like Seattle.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia: Salty had 3 hits in the series, one of them a homer, which sucks for a clean-up hitter. We know he won't be in that position permanently, but he has to step it up while he is.
Adrian Gonzalez: Gonzo snuck in a 3-for-5 performance in between 3 1-hit games. This is getting more painful we move forward.
Will Middlebrooks: Will's performance wasn't that bad, it is more for the injury. He has had the problem before, how long will it be a problem?
Cody Ross: Cody came out to a slow start, then picked it up as the series progressed. I wouldn't mind seeing him in the 4 spot.
Ryan Kalish: Still not impressed.
Mike Aviles: Still waiting for him to produce again.
The Bench: I'll take Punto over Lillibridge...man, that sucks.
Starting Pitching
Morales was great, Cook was better, Beckett was decent, and Doubront sucked.
Bullpen
The pen was great, mostly. Atchison had a tough outing in game 1, and Aceves was extended for 2 1/3 in game 3 as he took the loss. Other than that, they were great as usual.
Managing
Not sure if I like the idea to play Lillibridge as much as he did.
Overall
This should have been a sweep or at least a 3-win series. A series split against a team like the Mariners is not acceptable.
