After every series, we'll take stock of how each individual and group performance affects their overall value.
Lineup
Jacoby Ellsbury: Only 1 hit in the series is not going to cut it, no matter who the opponent is. The short porch in right would be a perfect thing to shoot for to get the power going.
Carl Crawford: His performance in the series wasn't too bad, but surgery will shut him down for a long time. A huge drop in value.
Dustin Pedroia: A big 3-run homer in game 1 that wasn't enough for the win, and a double in game 2. They were both productive hits, but the Sox needed much more.
Adrian Gonzalez: A pair of home runs and 3 RBI was a nice way to redeem himself from the last series.
Cody Ross: Nothing but strikeouts for Cody. Six strikeouts in 8 at-bats to be exact.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia: 1-for-7 with a pair of K's is better than what Cody Ross delivered, but it still sucked.
Ryan Lavarnway: Identical to Salty's performance with the exception of one less strikeout. He has yet to make any noise at the plate.
Scott Podsednik: We don't normally see 1-for-10 performances from Scott Podsednik. They are bound to happen sometime.
Pedro Ciriaco: Pedro Ciriaco was labeled as a "Yankee killer" after his 4-for-4, game 2 performance. He was exactly killing the Yankees in the rest of the series by going 0-for-6.
Nick Punto: I'll take 2-for-6 with an RBI from Nick Punto any day.
Mike Aviles: Mike was pretty good at the plate in game 1 (2-for-4, R), which turned out to be his only game of the series. The reason for the drop in value was his throwing miscue that lead to a 3-run inning for the Yankees.
Starting Pitching
Once again, the Sox only get 1 good outing sandwiched by 2 poor outings. We saw a surprising outing from Lester, as he returned to old form, shutting down the Yankees.
Bullpen
The pen is back to pitching well. Mortensen had the most trouble in the series, giving up a solo homer to Swisher. Aside from that, the bullpen pitched score-less ball.
Managing
Overall
Losing 2 out of 3 to the Yankees was just another kick below the belt.
