After every series, we'll take stock of how each individual and group performance affects their overall value.
Lineup
Jacoby Ellsbury: 2-for-13 is not what you want from your lead-off guy. Ellsbury couldn't even draw a walk to make something happen on the basepaths.
Carl Crawford: Carl amounted 7 hits (1 HR, 2 doubles) , 5 RBI, and a stolen base. He looked great in the series.
Dustin Pedroia: He had his ups and downs and landed somewhere in the middle at the end of the series.
Adrian Gonzalez: Another 2nd half homer, and continuing his tear since the All-Star break. Gonzo is batting a cool .444 since going into the Yankees series over a week ago.
Cody Ross: Cody is climbing back up. A pair of multi-hit games and a pair of RBI was a good sign from Ross.
Will Middlebrooks: A tough start to the series, but Middlebrooks grabbed a pair of hits after the reluctant day off.
Mike Aviles: Things were looking up for Aviles in the Twins series. A homer, a couple of 2-hit games. Lets hope it continues.
The Catching Trio: Lavarnway, Salty, and Shoppach all shared time behind the plate and Shoppach's 2 singles were the only hits from the three in the series as catchers. Lavarnway added a double in game 2 as part of his 1-for-5 effort as the DH.
The bench: Ciriaco's pinch hit homer was a great way to grab your first homer in the majors. He did nothing else in the series along with Punto and Kalish.
Starting Pitching
Lester had one of his best outings in weeks, Doubront sucked, Buchholz was great, and Morales looked good with a few control problems. The offense did not show up for Lester and the bullpen can be credited for the rest of the crap.
Bullpen
I saw better pitching in relief at my nephew's little league game
Managing
Good move putting Ciriaco in to hit for Ellsbury. The bullpen just made Bobby look bad. I don't think he did anything much wrong this series.
Overall
Losing 3 out of 4 against the Twins is embarrassing.
