Jon Lester pitched an OK game. The offense couldn't get across the plate. Sox lose 4-2 to Baltimore.
The good news is that the Sox didn't lose this game in any kind of heart-breaking fashion. Just a good old boring loss. Not much to say about the game, really. Lester threw 7 mediocre innings, giving up 8 hits, walking 3 O's with only 3 K's. All 4 Baltimore runs are on him as well. This was also Lester's first loss against the Orioles ever -- he had been 14-0 against them.
The bullpen didn't implode, but Melancon drilled Andino in the back of the skull. Andino didn't even hit the dirt after it happened (he's far tougher than I) but was pulled from the game regardless. That was the excitement on the night.
Atchison and Melancon both pitched 0 run, 1 hit innings with a K apiece. Atchison's ERA is 1.64 on the year, if you're looking for something to be positive about.
Also, Iglesias got a hit! He went 1-3 and didn't strike out. Ciriaco and Pedroia drove the Sox two runs home. Ciraco, Nava and Pods each collected 2 hits. And that's pretty much it.
I'm still not used to seeing the Orioles with nearly 20 more wins than Boston. This season can't end fast enough.
