Dustin Pedroia & Cody Ross hit back to back doubles in the bottom of the eighth off of Luis Ayala to give the Sox a 2-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
It was another low scoring affair even though the Sox had plenty of chances to blow this game open. The biggest one was in the fourth where they had two on with nobody out and they barely managed to get a run thanks to a Robert Andino throwing error.
Felix Doubront had one of his better starts of the season: he had a no hitter through four innings before getting into some trouble in the fifth. He gave up three straight hits which brought across the lone Baltimore run. Thankfully, he managed to get out of the jam with no other damage. He finished the game going seven innings, allowing four hits, and striking out eleven and walking two.
Junichi Tazawa got the victory after pitching a scoreless eighth inning and Andrew Bailey gets the save despite every attempt to give it up. Mark Reynolds started it with a single, Jim Thome hit a ground rule double that was a blessing in disguise because Reynolds could have scored. After a Chris Davis intentional walk, Bailey was able to get Manny Machado to ground into a fielder's choice. For some reason, Robert Andino was taken out for pitch hitter Ryan Flaherty who struck out to end the game. You would think with the history Andino has, he would get the benefit of the doubt but whatever. Sox win!
The loss still has the Orioles one game back of the Yankees so today doesn't hurt the Orioles chance that much... but again SOX WIN! You don't really get to say that much nowadays.
