Looks like David Ortiz may finally get the two-year deal he's been wanting for quite some time.

The Red Sox are finalizing a two-year contract with David Ortiz that will keep the slugger in Boston through 2014, Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com reports. The sides have already agreed on a two-year term, but haven’t yet agreed on compensation. They hope to announce a deal by the end of the week.
Ortiz appears to be seeking a $25MM guarantee for two years, Edes reports. The Red Sox are willing to commit to a contract in that range, but hope to complete a deal for a few million less. Agent Fern Cuza spoke with the Red Sox on Monday and Ortiz spoke with GM Ben Cherington and manager John Farrell today.
Ortiz wasn't going to get anywhere close this money from another team and the Sox need a power hitter in the lineup as the last couple of months shown us. They were stuck with each other and it's still a fair value for Ortiz. This doesn't have to get dragged out for months and turn ugly! EVERYBODY WINS.
Now that he's got what he wanted, let's hope Ortiz doesn't bat .150 in April, which lead to the rumors that he's getting released, only to go off on a second half tear to totally make up for it all! If he keeps at the pace he had last year while staying healthy, this contract is a steal.
