The latest from the story that won't die comes from Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, who says that the Sox and Mike Napoli have made progress to the point that something is expected to be finalized next week. But that doesn't mean it's done:
Napoli is said to be talking to a couple other American League teams but the Red Sox are clearly heavily involved and may be the focus. The Mariners and Rangers originally had interest.
Meanwhile, via MLBTR, Jim Bowden of ESPN tweets that the deal is indeed a one-year agreement, as the Red Sox have reportedly been seeking.
I'm on board. I've liked Napoli in the context of this team all along, and not having to commit big years or money makes it even better.
So, he'll sign soon. Or he'll sign elsewhere. Or he won't. Or maybe he doesn't even exist. Who knows what to believe anymore?
